Like we asked so many times, where in life are you expected to know how to explicate a sonnet, explain the process of photosynthesis, describe the political implications of the sinking of the Maine, solve quadratic equations, and run the 4 x 100m relay all in the same day?

School.

No. Fucking. Place. Else.

Essentially meaningless content. Requiring an endless routine of archaic mental gymnastics.

The kid may “test well”, but can’t operate a washing machine without having a panic attack.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) states:
  • More than 45 percent of young adults who stopped attending college because of mental health related reasons did not request accommodations.
  • 50 percent of them did not access mental health services and supports either.
  • Overall, 40 percent of students with diagnosable mental health conditions did not seek help.
  • 57 percent of them did not request accommodations from their school.
  • Concern of stigma is the number one reason students do not seek help.

According to Psychology Today:

So now we’re up to a bit over $1 million for mental health treatment and prevention combined, or approximately $70 per student. This is about $1 for every $400 of total institutional expenditures on college students.

According to SFL, having student mental health be a .0025% line item within a university budget is bullshit.

“Build back better, blah, blah, blah. Green economy, blah, blah, blah. Net-zero by 2050, blah, blah, blah. Climate-neutral, blah, blah, blah. This is all we hear from our so-called leaders. Words, words that sound great but so far has led to no action.”

Protesting the frat is one thing, but students should focus their voices on Chancellor Douglas Girod.

Given his medical background, he probably appreciates the importance of house calls (and emails and in-person visits of large groups).
