Online Learning Platform
The foundation of SFL rests upon its Online Learning Platform. We use the 2007 Mellon Awards for Technologies Collaboration winning Atutor content management system in order to publish the vast majority of our online materials. Our platform is used also to facilitate and discussions between individual students, academic programs and businesses around the world. Our platform also links past and future music business leaders to create new lines of thought which can be analyzed and put into practice within any territory and within any global business market.

The Six Finger Record
In the coming months, SFL leaders will visit colleges and universities around the world to invite students to join a truly unique online social network called The Six Finger Record. This network will serve as a worldwide meeting place for those planning to lead change in the fields of music, film, fashion, writing, art and social awareness. Members will interact with one another, share details of their projects, write blogs, post research and plans for peer review, join industry focus groups and submit CV's for possible employment with select companies in the creative industries. In 2010, similar invitations will be sent to educators, artists and executives as well with the aim to create the definative community for those creative industries. The goal of The Six Finger Record is not merely to drive quanities of people to a common place online but to increase the quality of the interactions of its members as well. More details regarding membership and services will be posted soon.
Online Library
SFL is developing an online library of texts and audio materials focusing upon the global music industries. Topics such as artist management, song publishing, the impact of the internet, emerging legal issues, etc. will be described and discussed in detail. These online materials will available to instructors around the world to use in their classrooms and in partnership with their own projects.
Instructional/Performance Technology and Design
In addition to creating new materials for educational and business needs, SFL can serve as consultants when educational institutions develop curricula or for businesses when designing training and/or marketing materials. Consultations may include the design, implementation and evaluation of online educational or business projects. By combining elements of educational design, online technologies and marketing principles to create custom information exchange modules on the Internet, SFL can assist companies seeking better relations and a better understanding of their clients and their needs. Focus is placed upon creating a two-way interaction of information where SFL clients have constant access to materials and learn more about the products/services of a company and a company learns more about the needs and preferences of its clients. This approach creates a unique learning business environment for both a company and its clients.
IMMF Code of Conduct The international music industry has decentralised and this has shifted commercial control from monopoly companies to smaller artist-manager teams. This project addresses the issue that these artist manager teams are not regulated by a code of conduct. The International Music Managers’ Forum (IMMF) is a voluntary body seeking to create new standards in relation to artist management practices and to the enforcement of international copyright law. Their aim is constrained by lack of empirical research. This project is significant because it provides the first in-depth analysis of artist management practices in the current phase of decentralisation. The IMMF have a code to which they aspire. The plan for this project is to use this aspirational code as a starting point for the development of a more enforceable code of conduct. Numerous artist managers have and will be interviewed. Six Finger Learning will assist with this year long project by gathering information as well as editing the final code of coduct before its release.
